What is The First Choice for us to Visit If Travel to China
Travel to China, have you made a plan clearly? If you decide to visit China, one place you cannot missed ' the Great Wall that is one of the most famous scenic spots in the world. Starting out in the east on the banks of the Yalu River in Liaoning Province, the Wall stretches westwards for more than 10000 Li to Jiayuguan in the Gobi desert, thus known as the Ten Thousand Li Wall, also called 'WanLiChangCheng' (2 Li=1km) by Chinese people.
The Great Wall is mainly located in BeiJing, and has deep culture for Chinese. It started to build at the Spring-Autumn and Warring States Periods. Each state built its own wall around its territory to protect themselves from others countries' invading. The Great wall was emerged in Qin Dynasty by Qinshi Emperor who defeated the other six kingdoms and unified China in 221B.C. and became the first emperor of China. Then he ordered to link up the separated walls before and extended them. Since then, the Great Wall was rebuilt, modified or extended throughout Chinese history for over 2,000 years, mainly to protect the Chinese Empire from the Mongolians and other invaders. Most of the Great Wall we see today was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
The great building is human wisdom crystallization reflection and shocked us is that all of it were made by people without any technology. There shows, of cause, not only a wall, but also have forts, passes and beacon towers on the wall to house auxiliary soldiers and to transmit military information.
The Great Wall is a legacy of history for Chinese people, and it is worthy for us to have a look. Maybe many of us have come to know the famous Chinese saying: He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man.' But it does not mean whenever you climb the mountain, you will get the same charm feeling.
As a matter of fact, the Great Wall will show different scenery if visit in different times. For me, I think visit it in spring is better. At this time, the trees and plants turn green, the wall wonders among the lush vegetation. Everything looks so fresh. It is also a good time to avoid the crowd tourists in summer and autumn.
