What is the best historical town in England?

I think the best historical town in England is Birmingham, the UK's second city is well and truly on the way up. Birmingham came of age during the Industrial Revolution, a fact which led to Birmingham being known as "the workshop of the world" or the "city of a thousand trades". It was here that James Watt first used the steam engine with success to mine the Black Country. Watt and other famous 18th-century members of the Lunar Society regularly met under a full moon in the nearby Soho mansion of manufacturer Matthew Boulton. Together, Watt, Boulton, and other "lunatics," as Joseph Priestly, Charles Darwin, and Josiah Wedgwood cheerfully called themselves, launched the revolution that thrust England and the world into the modern era.
If you want to travel to Birmingham, the Birmingham Museum& Art Gallery is the main art gallery and museum in Birmingham and has one of the largest collections of Pre-Raphaelite art in the world which is really worth visiting. The Barber Institute of Fine Arts is housed in one of Birmingham's finest Art Deco buildings.  Here you can see works by Monet, Magritte, Renoir, Degas, Turner, Gauguin, van Gogh and Picasso, among many others. Alternatively, enjoy the many pieces of public art displayed in Birmingham's city squares. You can see lots of fun.
Birmingham has had a vibrant and varied musical history over the last century. Birmingham bands have made a major contribution to the musical culture of the United Kingdom. The biggest music shop in Europe called Woodroffes Musical Instruments which was located in Birmingham. Symphony Hall, the internationally 'renowned City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra's home venue, is also a good place for you to visit. The Birmingham Repertory Theatre and the Hippodrome Theatre, Alexandra Theatre are all can give you a different feeling. We also know that English is famous for football, therefore, in Birmingham, you can experience the sport spirit of football.
At the heart of the new Birmingham stands the city's symbol, a statue of Vulcan, Roman god of fire and the forge. To many, Birmingham seems to have been magically forged anew. Now, Birmingham is developing to a modern city but also with an ancient atmosphere.
